Loaves and the Fishes... and a little Beef...

The Paluszny Family loves the hot stone! It is our favorite way to cook dinner. It's fun. It's easy. And, best of all, the kids stay longer at the dinner table.
The hot stone is basically a small slab of marble that you preheat in an oven, and then place on a rack on the kitchen table. We use Sterno flames under the marble so it maintains its cooking temperature throughout dinner. Then, the kids grab their fondue forks and cook their meat of choice directly in front of them. The kids have a blast!
I pre-slice the meat ahead of time and usually serve two of the following: beef tenderloin, chicken, tuna steaks, shrimp, or lobster. Yesterday, we had beef and tuna. The cooking is a slow process, so the kids actually feel full with less food... which is a huge plus. Using the hot stone helps duplicate the story of the loaves and the fishes. For 8 people, I only needed to buy four small tenderloins, and two tuna steaks.
The rest of the meal included steamed rice, steamed broccoli (microwaved in the bag), and fresh bread (warmed in the oven). We always put out Emeril's Steak Rub (to sprinkle on the steak as it cooks), Old Bay Seasoning (for the fish), A-1, soy sauce, lemon and butter. Yum, yum, yum.
I hope you give the hot stone a try. It just doesn't get any easier than: slice meat, boil rice, steam broccoli, warm bread. The kids cook their own little meal at the table and everyone is happy.
You can order hot stones at http://www.hotstones.com/. If you have questions, just let me know...
GOOD LUCK!
